How to Install Tool Holder and Tool in CNC Center

The tool shank, intermediate connecting rod and tool can be assembled outside the machine tool and then loaded into the tool library of the machining center. According to the different ways of clamping tool, the TOOL HOLDER can be divided into side-fixed end milling Tool Holder, spring chuck tool holder, heat-shrinkable tool holder, plane milling tool holder, strong tool holder, etc.

1. Side-fixed end milli tool holder

As shown in the figure, the side-fixed end milling tool holder is locked and positioned by one or two clamping screws. Because the locking screw is located on one side of the tool handle, it is difficult to ensure high coaxiality. Side-fixed end milling tool shank is often used to clamp end milling cutters, drills, boring rods, flat drills and straight shank cutters, and is widely used in milling and boring processes with low tolerance requirements.

2. Spring chuck ER tool holder

The spring chuck handle includes a spring chuck for clamping and positioning the tool, and its structure is shown in the figure. Compared with side-fixed end milling tool holder, spring chuck tool holder is more expensive, but it has better tool clamping and higher precision tool positioning ability. There are three main types of spring chucks: ER type, DA type (double angle type) and TG type (single angle type or small taper type). A spring chuck is usually only suitable for a tool of one size.

The clamping range of ER type chuck is large, but its taper is small and its elasticity is large, which requires high precision of matching. Double-angle chucks can be used to clamp various types of cutters, while single-angle chucks are specially used in situations where a greater clamping force is required on the cutters. Most machining centers use spring chuck tool holders.
