What is HSK tool holder?

Hsk Tool Holder is the best tool for high-speed cutting. It has become an important part of machining technology in high-speed cutting. After several revisions, the international organization for standardization issued the formal ISO standard iso12164 for HSK tool system in 2001.
At present, HSK (German abbreviation for Hohl shaft Kegel) tool system, KM tool system in the United States, NC5 and BIG-PLUS tool system in Japan are widely used in high-speed cutting, all of which belong to two-sided constraint tool shank.

HSK handle introduction
In high-speed machining has become an important part of machining and manufacturing technology. The machining performance of the traditional BT tool system has been difficult to meet the requirements of high-speed cutting.
While the cutting tool system can carry out cutting at high speed, the following basic conditions shall be met:

1. High system accuracy
The system accuracy includes the system positioning clamping accuracy and the tool repeated positioning accuracy. The former refers to the connection accuracy of the tool and the tool handle, the tool handle and the machine tool spindle; the latter refers to the consistency of the tool system accuracy after each tool change. The tool system has high system precision, which can guarantee the static and dynamic stability of the tool system under the condition of high-speed machining.

2. High system stiffness
The static and dynamic stiffness of the tool system is an important factor affecting the machining accuracy and cutting performance. The insufficient rigidity of the tool system will lead to the vibration of the tool system, thus reducing the machining accuracy, increasing the wear of the tool and reducing the service life of the tool.

3. Good dynamic balance
Under the condition of high-speed machining, the unbalance of small mass will cause huge centrifugal force, which will cause the sharp vibration of machine tool in the process of machining. Therefore, the dynamic balance of high-speed tool system is very important.

Development of HSK tool system standard
Since 1987, a special working group has been set up by the machine tool Laboratory of Ahern University of technology, Germany, as well as some tool manufacturers, machine tool manufacturers, user enterprises and more than 30 other units. Under the leadership of Professor M. weck, the research and development of the new tool system has begun. After the first round of research, the working group submitted the standard proposal of "automatic tool change hollow handle" to German industrial standards organization in July 1990. Germany published the DIN standard draft of HSK tool system in July 1991, and proposed to the international organization for standardization the development of relevant ISO standards. In May 1992, ISO / tc29 (tool technical committee), an international organization for standardization, decided not to formulate the ISO standard for automatic tool change hollow shank temporarily. After the second round of research by the working group, Germany formulated the formal industrial standard din69893 for HSK tool system in 1993. In May 1996, at the ISO / tc29 / wg33 review conference, the draft ISO standard ISO / dis12164 for HSK tool system based on din69893 was formulated. After several revisions, the HSK tool system official ISO standard iso12164 was issued in 2001.
