There are two main reasons for spindle speed turning of spring chuck

They can provide chucks designed for non-circular cross-section to hold moulded bars of the desired shape for customers.
The maximum allowable weight of the spindle of a lathe is based on the load capacity of the bearing. If the weight of the chuck and the workpiece combination is too large, the bearing may be overloaded. For those processing tasks that are dangerous beyond the limit, this danger may determine the choice of workpiece fixture. Claw chuck is often heavier than the same spring chuck. Therefore, spring chuck is the appropriate choice when weight control is needed.
